Twenty-sixth Session of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6)
Twenty-sixth Session of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6)
Introduction
The 26th Annual Session of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6) took place from 30 November 2016 to 2 December 2016.
Three mini-workshops were held as part of the session on:
- The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: what role for standards and regulatory cooperation?
- Managing risks, managing development
- International regulatory cooperation: the experience of members
The session additionally discussed and adopted recommendation on “Applying predictive risk management tools for targeted market surveillance”.
Main outcomes of the meeting:
The Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies revised two and adopted one new Recommendation at its 2016 session.
The new recommendation provides guidance to member states in using risk management tools for the identificatiion of non-compliant products and businesses. The two revised ones facilitate international trade by avoiding the duplication of conformity assessment procedures which are not justified on grounds of safety and public health.
The Working Party launched a new initiative on "Mainstreaming a gender perspective in standards and technical regulations" to enhance the use of standards and technical regulations as tools for implementation of SDG Goal 5, and more specifically Goal 5.5: "Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life".
Additionally at the session a study on the International Regulatory Activities of the UNECE was published. It showcases examples of successful UNECE tools, reviews the formal and informal processes of developing them, highlights their impact, key factors of success and future challenges
