Consultation meeting on the draft publication “Housing for Migrants and Refugees in the UNECE Region: Challenges and Practices”

17 December 2019
Geneva Switzerland

Time and venue: 14:00-17:00, Room IV, Palais des Nations, Geneva

The UNECE Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management prepared a draft publication examining the current challenges and practices in housing for migrants and refugees in the UNECE region. The study aims to provide recommendations on the provision of housing to incoming migrants and refugees based on an analysis of identified innovative practices, an extensive literature review and interviews with representatives of local and central governments, international banks, housing providers and third-sector organizations.

The Committee at its 80th session in October 2019 reviewed the draft publication and “agreed to undertake an additional review of the study “Housing for Migrants and Refugees” examining the current challenges and practices in housing migrants and refugees in the UNECE region through the  organization of informal meetings with permanent missions in Geneva in order to submit in a timely fashion a revised draft for consideration of the 81st session” (ECE/HBP/201 para 24).

The informal consultation meeting with permanent missions in Geneva will take place from 14:00 to 17:00 on 17 December 2019 in Room IV at the Palais des Nations.
