This validation workshop in Bishkek is organized by UNECE with participation of UN-Habitat and the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyz Republic. It is the culmination of cooperation between UNECE, UN-Habitat and the city of Bishkek between February 2020 and February 2021. The workshop will present the intermediate outcomes of cooperation on these three Projects:
- Smart Sustainable Cities for the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda in the UNECE Region
- Post COVID-19 Recovery in Informal Settlements in the ECE Region
- Building Urban Economic Resilience during and after COVID-19
Objectives of the workshop:
(i) To further explore social and economic changes in Bishkek, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the key objectives of the city for 2021;
(ii) To inform about the preliminary outcomes of Bishkek’s evaluation as Sustainable and Smart and share the next steps on the development of the Bishkek City Profile;
(iii) To present the Urban Economic Resilience Performance Diagnostic and Planning Tool, which will be used to assess Bishkek’s economic resilience and to provide practical recommendations on strengthening it;
(iv) To share the draft COVID-19 Recovery Action Plan for Informal Settlements in the ECE Region and to present an overview of relevant recommendations for the city of Bishkek;
(v) To share progress on preparation of an investment project book based on the 4G plans for the five pilot settlements in Bishkek.
