The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) has issued a Decision 2021/249 on Best Practice Guidance for Effective Methane Recovery and Use from Abandoned Coal Mines in which it endorsed the Best Practice Guidance for Effective Methane Recovery and Use from Abandoned Coal Mines, recommended that the Best Practice Guidance be disseminated widely, invited States Members of the United Nations, international organizations and the regional commissions to consider the possibility of taking appropriate measures to ensure the application of the Best Practice Guidance in countries worldwide [...].
It is the second time, after the Decision 2011/222 , when ECOSOC recognizes the work of the Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and Just Transition and recommends application of the practices developed by the Group worldwide.
