AMREC-PARC: Aligning Africa’s Resources with Global Standards

Building a sustainable future through total resource management

Introduction

The African Mineral and Energy Resources Classification and Management System (AMREC) and the Pan-African Resource Code (PARC) are pioneering frameworks designed to align Africa’s resource management with global standards. Built on the foundations of the United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS), these initiatives aim to ensure that Africa's mineral and energy resources are managed sustainably and equitably. AMREC - PARC development is led by the African Union - African Minerals Development Centre.

Key features

  • Alignment with Africa’s Vision: AMREC-PARC is a vital tool of the African Mining Vision (AMV) and closely aligns with the African Union's Agenda 2063.  ensuring that Africa’s vast resources contribute effectively to its socio-economic transformation.
  • Standardized Reporting: PARC provides a uniform reporting code, ensuring transparency and consistency across the continent’s extractive industries.
  • Alignment with Global Standards: Leveraging UNFC and UNRMS, AMREC-PARC ensures that Africa’s resources are managed in line with international best practices.

Strategic objectives
