Colombia: A middle-income country with a population of 50.4 million. According to WHO (2018), the number of traffic deaths per 100 000 inhabitants in Colombia has increased by 19.8% between 2010 and 2017. In 2017, 13.6 traffic deaths per 100 000 inhabitants were recorded, compared to 11.4 in 2010. Colombia has acceded to none of the 7 UN road safety legal instruments.
During the mission, the Special Envoy delivered a speech at the Plenary of the Congress of the Republic towards advocating for safer roads in the country.
