The opening ceremony of the International Centre of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane (ICE-CMM) in China took place within the framework of the 19th International Mining Congress of China and was followed by a short workshop organized by the Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co Ltd (SCCG), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI).

The events jointly constituting the 4th Sub-forum of the International Mining Congress were held on 24 September 2017, in Tianjin Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Centre in Tianjin, China.

The workshop was addressed to international and local mining community in general, and to practitioners operating in the field of CMM in particular. It was attended by coal producers, energy producers, regulators and decision-makers, as well as representatives of important scientific institutions and universities. All relevant stakeholders professionally engaged in effective CMM capture and utilisation were represented.

Due to the official character of the opening of ICE-CMM, high representatives of the Chinese Central and Provincial Governments, as well as of SCCG and UNECE were also present.
