On 28 and 29 October 2014 representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan (the Ministry) and international consultant to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe(UNECE consultant), Mr. Jerzy Jendrska jointly developed textual proposals for draft LAW OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS AND ECOLOGICAL EXAMINATION (the draft Law).  As a result of the joint work the draft Law is now aligned with the provisions of the Espoo Convention and its Protocol on SEA and will be submitted for consultations with the competent authorities in January 2015. The obtained comments will be discussed at the roundtable meeting scheduled to take place in Baku in February 2015. In addition, the SEA provisions of the proposed law will be tested through a pilot application of SEA to the Action Plan on Alternative and Renewable Energy Resources Use planned for February – October 2015.
