Meeting with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic

On 31 May 2019, the Special Envoy visited Slovakia jointly with the ECE Executive Secretary, upon the invitation from the Government of Slovakia. During the mission, they have met with the H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and discussed the road safety situation in Slovakia as well as the way forward.
Slovakia’s National road safety strategy aims at reducing road traffic fatalities by 50% by 2020, in line with the SDG target 3.6. The Special Envoy inquired of the status of achieving Slovakia’s national goals and encouraged law enforcement towards addressing top risk factors for road safety. 
 
Together with the ECE Executive Secretary they provided an update and summary of the next steps for the UN Road Safety Trust Fund, to which Slovakia has been a donor since last year.
In conclusion, the Special Envoy reiterated the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in achieving national and global road safety goals.
