The Special Envoy met with key stakeholders during his visit to Dehli, India on 20 April, where he learned about the progress on the Good Samaritan law aimed to faster response for victims of road traffic crashes. The meetings were held with the United Nations Country Team, Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and Indian Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. The Special Envoy shared the term of his mandate and praised the efforts of the United Nations Country Team on their road safety efforts. They discussed road safety activities at the provincial level, awareness raising campaigns currently implemented at the country level and improvement of India’s legislation on road safety if the a new Road Transport Safety Bill (RTSB) is adopted.

The Special Envoy also visited a workshop organized by the Global Road Safety Partnership to participate in a roundtable discussion with civil society representatives. The Special Envoy shared his mandate, including his past and on-going engagement with civil society. The group voiced their hope for the National Traffic Safety Bill, which is currently under consideration in the Indian Congress, and is concerned about the on-going delays in introducing the RTSB. Participants requested that the Special Envoy supports these national level efforts through his activities at the UN. Participants included representatives from GRSP, Indian Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, Dinesh Road Safety, GAPSHAM, Peoples’ Trust Jaipur, Safe Road Foundation, Transport Mitra, Road Safety Haryana, CauseBecause and Indian Federation of Road Safety.
