- Breeding new soybean varieties 2015
-
The purpose of the project was to bring the Russian and Swiss scientists to work on breeding and testing new soybean varieties resistant to disease and unfavourable climate conditions.
The project on soybeans has been designed as a scientific and practical response to the problems arising from the climate change and growing risks of food shortages.
The soybean is known for its high protein (38–45%) and oil (20%) content. The bulk of the soybean crop is grown for oil production, with the high-protein defatted and "toasted" soy meal used as livestock feed.
Processed soybeans are recommended for human consumption, as they represent a valuable source of “complete” protein, which contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids that must be provided to the human body because of the body's inability to synthesize them. Soy protein products can replace animal-based foods - which also have “complete” proteins but tend to contain more fat, especially saturated fat - without requiring major adjustments elsewhere in the diet. Soybean products appear in a large variety of processed foods.
Soybeans can produce at least twice as much protein per hectare than any other major vegetable or grain crop besides hemp, five to 10 times more protein per hectare than land set aside for grazing animals to make milk, and up to 15 times more protein per hectare than land set aside for meat production.
New soybean varieties suitable for specific soil and climate conditions are needed to expand the areas sown to this culture in Europe, the Russian Far East and other parts of the CIS region.

- Traceability in the poultry sector in the Russian Federation 2014
-
Traceability refers to the completeness of and the ability to access the information about each step in a process or a supply chain. It is the ability to chronologically interrelate uniquely identifiable entities in a verifiable way. In the food industry, it contributes to food safety and brings economic benefits, as it provides reassuring information to consumers and makes it possible to trace a problem back to its source in a technological process.
Such monitoring systems are based on the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) methodology recommended by the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the food industry in general, and meat and poultry industry in particular. These systems prevent product contamination by identifying and controlling health hazards associated with food production, storage and distribution.
Traceability starts at individual food-processing enterprises. Once in place, an enterprise-level traceability system can be extended to cover the movement of product batches in the distribution chain to make the task of a product recall easier, should a food-safety problem occur.
The reports below were prepared by the All-Russia Research Institute for Poultry Processing (VNIIPP) under the UNECE grant for the project on traceability in the poultry sector in the Russian Federation. The reports present the concept of traceability, technological and business processes in the poultry sector, as well as technical specifications for setting up an operational system of traceability at the enterprise level. - Thailand Workshop 2011
