Equivalences and derogations

 

According to Article 7, paragraph 3 of ADN, the Contracting Parties shall retain the right to authorize, in the following cases, the international carriage of dangerous goods on board vessels which do not comply with conditions established in the annexed Regulations, provided that the procedure established in the annexed Regulations is complied with:

           (a) The use on a vessel of materials, installations or equipment or the application on a vessel of certain
                 measures concerning construction or certain provisions other than those prescribed in the annexed
                 Regulations;

           (b) Vessels with technical innovations derogating from the provisions of the annexed Regulations.

 

The list of vessels currently benefitting from the provisions of 1.5.3.2 of the Regulations annexed to ADN appears below:

1. Argonon, Netherlands, Derogation No. 1/2012 of 27 January 2012 authorizing the use of diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/17, para. 11 and Annex I)

2. Damen River Tanker 1145 Eco Liner, Netherlands, Derogation No. 2/2012 of 31 August 2012 authorizing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/20, para. 7 and Annex I)

3. I-Tanker 1401, Netherlands, Derogation No. 3/2012 of 31 August 2012 authorizing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/20, para. 7 and Annex II)

4. I-Tanker 1402, Netherlands, Derogation No. 4/2012 of 31 August 2012 authorizing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/20, para. 7 and Annex III)

9. Push boat to be built by Kooiman Marine B.V. (Shipyard No. 204), Netherlands, Derogation No. 3/2014 of 31 January 2014 authorizing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation and auxilliary installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/26, para. 9 and Annex III)

10. Damen River Tanker 1145 Eco liner 949, Netherlands, Derogation No. 4/2014 of 31 January 2014 authorizing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel for the propulsion installation on a trial basis until 30 June 2017 (see ECE/ADN/26, para. 9 and Annex IV)

In addition, the Safety Committee at its fifteenth session (24-29 August 2009) took note of the list of vessels below for which the CCNR had issued a recommendation of recognition of equivalence and recommended that the Administrative Committee take up this list on its own account. This was endorsed by the Administrative Committee at its fourth session (28-29 January 2010) (see ECE/ADN/8, para.15)
