First Meeting of the Ad hoc Expert Group on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution

The main task of the expert group is to review the evidence on specific POPs with a view to (a) making the best use of available knowledge to meet the existing obligations for substances listed in annexes I, II and III to the POPs Protocol and (b) assisting Parties in identifying which candidates may be given priority for inclusion in the Protocol.
7-10 World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29)

The one-hundred-and-twenty-second session of WP.29 has on the agenda consideration of more than thirty amendments to existing UN/ECE Regulations and five new draft Regulations, of which substantial part is expected to be adopted by vote. Besides, it is the first session since the entry into force of the 1998 Global Agreement and WP.29 is expected to consider the strategy of developing future global technical regulations for road vehicles.

The aim of this workshop is to initiate a systematic and internationally harmonized assessment of the potential of and the costs for controlling primary emissions of fine particulate matter in Europe, so that the foreseen review processes of the Gothenburg Protocol and the EU legislation can rely on verified and internationally accepted information on this subject.

It will involve experts from both the Aarhus and Espoo Convention bodies.

This work takes place under the UN/ECE Working Party on International Legal and Commercial Practice (WP.5).
