19-20 Forum on Electronic Commerce for Transition Economies in the Digital Age

The Forum is organized by the Committee for Trade, Industry and Enterprise Development. Speakers will include high-ranking officials from UN/ECE member States and key players in the industry both at the global and regional level. The objectives include to promote the development of the Internet and electronic commerce in transition economies; to review the Internet infrastructure and prospects for electronic commerce in the countries of central and eastern Europe and the CIS; to consider the potential of electronic commerce for small and medium-sized enterprises; and to identify the needs for capacity building. The Forum will explore the central issues in electronic commerce and Internet-based enterprise development in transition economies. The discussions should not only raise awareness of the current situation but also offer a panorama of the vast potential and upcoming opportunities for these countries.

19-23 Working Party on Customs Questions Affecting Transport - 95th session

The main focus of the session of the Working Party will be to complete work on Phase II of the TIR revision process which will consist of a complex package of amendment proposals modifying and clarifying a large number of provisions of the TIR Convention, 1975. The TIR Administrative Committee, at its session in October 2000, will then decide on the adoption of these amendment proposals prepared by the Working Party. The Working Party will also consider the draft of a new annex to the International Convention on the Harmonization of Frontier Controls of Goods, 1982 addressing efficient border crossing procedures.
