Milestones of 70 years working in the service of forests and people

In 2017, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) celebrated its seventieth anniversary.  In the same year, ECE and FAO celebrated seventy years of cooperation and joint work in the region. This timeline presents the official records of the history of the cooperation between one the oldest ECE committees, the Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry, known through most of the period as the Timber Committee, and the FAO European Forestry Commission.

Clicking through this timeline you will become aware of the long and impressive resume of accomplishments that 70 years of joint work has produced. However, 70 years as measured against the lifecycle of a forest is fleeting; decisions taken today will be shaping forests 70 years from now and well beyond our lifetimes. We have a great responsibility to ensure that our children and grandchildren will still be able to enjoy abundant and healthy forests and benefit from the goods and services that forests provide.

A publication, 70 years working together in the service of forests and people, is available here.
