Forest Assessment

 

The UNECE region is rich in forest resources with a forest area of 1.71 billion ha – an astounding 42% of the global total. Further, the majority of the global wood-based production is located in the region and there is increasing recognition of the value of natural capital and forest ecosystem services. Yet the forest sector, as well as many outside of it, is ever more concerned with changes in market prices and supply and demand patterns, production processes and investment as well as the need to improve livelihoods and address the impacts of climate change and loss of biodiversity in the region.
