The UNECE Housing and Land Management Unit provides the secretariat to the Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management, the Working Party on Land Administration, the Real Estate Market Advisory Group and Forum of Mayors.
The UNECE Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management (CUDHLM) was established in 1947 as an intergovernmental body to address shared housing and land management challenges across 56 member States in the UNECE region. The Committee facilitates dialogue between governments, supports knowledge transfer on innovative practices, provides advice and develops policy guidelines to address common housing, urban development and land-use related challenges.
The Working Party on Land Administration (WPLA) is a subsidiary intergovernmental body of the Committee which works to strengthen land administration and land management in the UNECE region to adequately respond to a changing environment and emerging needs and contribute to the 2030 Agenda. The Working Party aims at supporting security of tenure, improving and creating more effective land and cadastre registries, widening the use of geospatial data and promoting sustainable land use policies.
The Real Estate Market Advisory Group (REM), a team of specialists, supports and assists the Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management and the Working Party on Land Administration to develop stronger housing real estate markets and promote sustainable urban development.
In January 2023, the UNECE Executive Committee decided to establish the Forum of Mayors as a subsidiary body of the Committee in the form of a team of specialists.
