The 85th session of the Inland Transport Committee (Geneva, 21 – 24 February 2023, in person) brought together transport leaders from United Nations Member States and key transport stakeholders from around the world with the aim to turn inland transport into a catalyst of climate solutions.
High-level Policy Segment
The session’s high-level segment took place on 21 February. The theme of the conference was: “Actions of the inland transport sector to join the global fight against climate change.” (see the page dedicated to the High-level Policy Segment)
Three panel discussions included:
- Critical partnerships and leaving no-one behind in the climate battle: global challenges and winning formulas for net-zero leaders;
- Bridging regulators and innovators to bring to scale critical technologies supporting climate change mitigation actions;
- A bet we can’t afford to lose: challenges and opportunities in the nexus of international financial and regulatory support for climate action.
The transport sector accounts for almost a quarter of global energy-related CO2 emissions (23%). Inland transport contributes more than 71% of all transport related emissions. These figures highlight the critical importance of inland transport, and the great potential it has to be a nexus of change. The ITC has a unique role in harnessing the full potential of inland transport solutions.
