UNECE and ITU promote the use of ICTs in city planning and service provision, including through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Smart Sustainable Cities. Over 50 cities worldwide are now using the KPIs, which cover diverse areas ranging from Internet Access to e-Government, electricity supply and traffic monitoring. Based on the KPIs, UNECE developed smart sustainable city profiles for Goris (Armenia) and Voznesensk (Ukraine), which will assist these cities in implementing priority measures for their development, attract investments and localise the SDGs.
UNECE supports the integration of Intelligent Transport Systems in all modes of inland transport. This helps to improve efficiency and limit emissions by reducing traffic congestion.
