The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will organize on 11-12 May 2004 an Executive Forum on "Competing in a Changing Europe".

The Forum will focus on the consequences of EU enlargement, especially for the countries in the UNECE region that will not accede to the EU in May 2004. The Forum is expected to:

  • be an occasion for all the countries in the Euro-Asian region, their enterprises and NGOs to gain a better understanding of the business and economic consequences of EU enlargement;
  • create an increased awareness of the benefits and opportunities that enlargement creates for enterprises and traders;
  • offer policy makers and economic actors a roadmap of where to get the support they need in responding to the changing trading environment in Europe
  • discuss the new strategies to be developed by economic agents in transition economies for entering the global market, by presenting best practice

Speakers and participants will include representatives of: international organizations; Governments and Parliaments of UNECE and OSCE member countries; the European Commission; business; NGOs and academia.
