Commission Sessions

The Commission is the highest governing body of the organization. Its sessions are held  every two years at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. They provide a forum for the consideration of issues of importance for the economic integration and cooperation among the countries of the region. The sessions also enable the Governments of member States to review the work accomplished in the preceding years, provide strategic direction of the organization going forward, and take decisions on overarching organizational matters, including administrative and budgetary questions.

In the intersessional period, the Executive Committee is entrusted with the implementation of the overall guidance set by the Commission.

The sessions of the Commission are conducted in accordance with the Terms of Reference and Rules of Procedure of the Commission (available in English, French and Russian).

Each session of the Commission includes a high-level segment where member States hold a dialogue on a cross-cutting theme which they designate prior to the session. The theme also serves as a focus area for targeted cross-sectoral collaboration throughout UNECE in the period leading up to and following the session, over a four year cycle.
