On 8 December 2020, the Special Envoy participated in the virtual Global Meeting of Regional Road Safety Observatories, organized by the regional road safety observatories in Africa (ARSO), Asia-Pacific (APRSO) and Ibero-America (OISEVI). These observatories have been developed with the support of international development organizations, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Transport Forum (ITF) and the Fédération Internationale de l' Automobile (FIA), to improve availability and quality of road safety data since in 2018.
Purpose of the conference was to keep the momentum created by the recent UN General Assembly Resolution on Improving Global Road Safety (A/RES/74/299) and contribute to strengthening collaboration and harmonization across the regional observatories.
The Special Envoy recognized the paramount importance of establishing these regional observatories which would help improve road safety data, leading us to making more effective policies, identifying country-specific problems and implementing appropriate solutions.
