On 1 December 2020, the Special Envoy hosted the webinar “From global commitment to local action – a roundtable towards accountability for safer roads”, along with Ms. Lotte Brondum, Executive Director of the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety (Alliance).
The online event brought together national and regional decision makers to discuss road safety progress and challenges, as well as exchange about the latest UN General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution on Improving Global Road Safety (A/RES/74/299) and the role civil society has to work in collaboration with governments and accelerate the changes needed to save lives on the road.
The Special Envoy drew attention to relevant SDG targets and road safety in the context of COVID-19. Furthermore, the Special Envoy urged the governments to strongly commit towards addressing the current road safety challenges and encouraged multi-stakeholder collaboration that is necessary to develop effective national road safety action plans through 2030, in line with the UNGA resolution.
