Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week event in Kingston, Jamaica

On Wednesday, 10 May, Jamaica’s Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Andrew Holness MP together with the Chairman of National Road Safety Council hosted a high-level event, organized by the FIA Foundation and the Jamaican National Road Safety Council, during which the Special Envoy delivered a keynote speech. This event marked the Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week and focused on the implications of road safety on children. Prime Minister Holness signed an Open Letter urging action on reducing and enforcing speed management to a level safe for children in Jamaica, particularly to introduce low-speed zones in residential areas and near schools. During his speech, the Prime Minister expressed his support and commitment to safer roads and made a public declaration of his commitment to halve the number of road traffic fatalities by 2020 and accede to all six UN Road Safety Conventions. This declaration was made following the Special Envoy’s recommendations during their bilateral.
