Senegal: A low-middle-income country with a population of 16.87 million. According to the World Bank, Senegal is ranked 9th out of 48 African countries. Senegal has acceded to 2 out of 7 UN road safety legal instruments.
During the mission, the Special Envoy met with the following officials to advocate for safer roads in the country and beyond:
• H.E. Mr. Macky Sall, President;
• H.E. Mr. Amadou Ba, Prime Minister;
• H.E. Ms. Aïssata Tall Sall, Minister of Foreign Affairs;
• H.E. Mr. Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome, Minister of Interior;
• H.E. Mr. Mansour Faye, Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Decentralization;
• H.E. Dr. Marie Khemesse Ngom Ndiaye, Minister of Health;
• H.E. Mr. Giovanni Umberto De Vito, Ambassador of Italy in Senegal;
• Mr. Cheikhou Oumar Gaye, Director-General, Agence nationale de Sécurité routière (ANASER)
• Ms. Aminata Maiga, UN Resident Coordinator in Senegal; and other representatives from the UNCT.
Moreover, the Special Envoy participated in a discussion with private sector companies and a separate one with road safety NGOs.
