Mission to Mexico City, Mexico, 15-18 August 2022

Mexico: A middle-income country with a population of 128.9 million. According to WHO (2018) Mexico (Meso-America region) had the second lowest road death rate at 14.2 per 100,000 inhabitants after North America. Mexico has acceded to only 2 out of 7 UN road safety legal instruments.


During the mission, the Special Envoy met with the following officials towards advocating for safer roads in the country:
•    Mr. Salomon Chertorivsky, President of the Mobility Commission within the Federal Legislative;
•    Mr. Andrés Lajous, Secretary of Mobility, Mexico City;
•    Delegation from the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, SEDATU;
•    Delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation;
•    Delegation from BANOBRAS/FONADIN;
•    Delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education;
•    Delegation from the Coalition Movilidad Segura & Refleacciona con responsabilidad NGO;
•    Mr. Aldo Gonzalez and Ms. Ana Rodriguez from Yours Mexico.
