Meetings with Government and UN officials in Croatia

The Special Envoy travelled to Zagreb, Croatia on 16-17 July 2020 and held bilateral meetings with government stakeholders.
During his meetings, the Special Envoy provided an overview of the road safety situation in the country and needed actions. He highlighted the regional and global goals for road safety, and the required commitments. Furthermore, the Special Envoy highlighted progress of the UNRSF. He also congratulated the Government for being a contracting party to five out of seven UN Road Safety Conventions and encouraged accession to the remaining.

The Special Envoy met with the following officials in Croatia: 
o    H.E. Mr. Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister;
o    H.E. Mr. Gordan Grlić Radman, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.

On 17 July 2020, the Special Envoy met with the UNCT in Croatia to discuss road safety situation in the country with its challenges as well as the way forward.

The Special Envoy shared about road safety in the Sustainable Development Goals and regional targets. He also highlighted the UN efforts including the UN Road Safety Strategy, the UNRSF and the UN road safety conventions. In conclusion, the Special Envoy encouraged the UNCT to closely collaborate with and support the Government of Croatia in achieving national and regional road safety goals, as well as in developing a new National Road Safety Plan 2021-2030. 


Led by Ms. Marijana Salinovic, UNICEF Child Rights Monitoring Specialist and UN Resident Coordinator a.i., UNCT members representing the following agencies participated in the meeting: IOM and UNHCR.
