On 3 March 2021, the Special Envoy virtually met with H.E. Ms. Adina-Ioana Vălean, Commissioner for Transport, EU. The Special Envoy took the opportunity to thank the EU for continued support in road safety efforts, particularly through the contribution to the UNRSF, Geneva Friends of Road Safety Network, and the leadership of Mr. Matthew Baldwin, Deputy Director General and European Coordinator for Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility at the European Commission, and Chair of the UNRSF AB.
The Special Envoy also congratulated the Commissioner on operational and recovery efforts during COVID-19 and inquired about upcoming EU road safety initiatives. In conclusion, the Special Envoy and the Commissioner explored joint priorities, particularly in Africa and Western Balkans.
