Synopsis:
The United Nations Global Compact has integrated in its objective 5 to enhance international governance of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity. It also calls for the use of open, international standards on artificial intelligence. These principles are targeting specifically the governance of AI systems.
How can this then be interpreted for trade processes? How can this be transcribed into processes for product conformity?
The United Nations Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Polices (WP.6) has just completed an overarching guidance document on this topic and joins with the prominent expert from Israel, Yoav Evenstein to present some possible approaches to ensure the safety of all. Standards on AI are key in this process as well as the conformity approaches. Mr. Evenstein will present the innovative approach that is being proposed in Israel to promote a conformity approach based on a pack of recognized international standards. This approach is similar to that of the WP.6 guidance. He will also delve into some of the current regulations and demonstrate how and why they might slightly diverge from international standards – and why this is important.
After a brief presentation on the basic principles on AI related to market access, the standards necessary for that and the conformity approaches, Mr. Evenstein will be joined by a panel of experts to further discuss products regulations, practical steps for regulators and businesses, transformative innovation approaches, gender and other trade-related topics to AI standards.
This conference aims to provide a solid overview of current trends on AI regulations in relation to trade and market access. This meeting will take place in hybrid format; registration is required here: (LINK forthcoming)
