40th UN/CEFACT Forum: Trusted Product Conformity – Towards Digitally Traceable Quality, Safety, Social, and Environmental Data for Products

Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrifood Domain & Trade Procedures Facilitation Domain

08 May 2023 14:00 - 17:30
Hybrid, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland

Claims made about products such as quality, origin, safety, environmental and social impacts are becoming ubiquitous in modern supply chains. But they need to be verifiable and trusted. Digitally traceable product data presents opportunities for adding trust on products claims in supply chains. This session will highlight the contribution of the White Paper on Digital Product Conformity Certificate for the discussion on trust and traceability in supply chains. The digitalization of conformity certification exchanges provides a possibilities for accessing, at its source, conformity data that has been digitally linked to both physical product supply and to the issuing body’s credentials.

White Paper on Digital Product Conformity Certificate Exchange
The exchange of conformity assessment attestations between supply chain actors remains paper based. The necessary procedures, semantics, and legal framework to enable transition to fully digitalised attestation systems have not been agreed. This paper explores new possibilities that arise when framing digitalisation in terms of access to (rather than exchange of) conformity attestations.
