By optimizing energy use and resource management holistically, industries and governments can enhance sustainability, reduce energy waste, and improve resource resilience.

This Bi-monthly open discussion forum of the UNECE Task Force on Industrial Energy Efficiency will explore the interconnections between circularity, energy and resource efficiency through the lens of systemic efficiency. It will focus on how the entire value chain—from sourcing and production to product use and end-of-life management—is interlinked, underscoring the critical role of systemic efficiency in fostering the decarbonization of industry, in supporting its energy- and resource resilience and enabling other sectors to meet their energy and climate goals.

This event will highlight how integrated approaches across the value chain can promote a circular economy while addressing climate challenges and resource constraints. It will further examine how industries can reduce dependencies on critical materials and improve energy and resource efficiency through strategic design, production, and usage decisions.

Questions for discussion:

  • What are the key components of systemic efficiency, and how can they be applied to optimize both energy and resource use?
  • How does circularity across the industrial value chain reduce vulnerabilities and enhance sustainability in energy and resource management?
  • In what ways can cross-sector collaboration improve systemic efficiency and resource management across design, production and consumption stages?
  • What policy or technological innovations are essential to integrate the principles of circular economy into industrial energy and resource management?
