This page provides an overview of resources on policies, strategies, legislation, measures and activities concerning ageing and older persons by countries in the UNECE region. UNECE comprises 56 member States across Europe, North America and Central Asia.
The resource documents take as their benchmark:
- the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA)
- the Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS) of MIPAA for the UNECE region
- UNECE Ministerial Declarations on Ageing
Every five years, progress in advancing ageing policies and policies for older persons is reviewed, based on information provided by countries in national reports (2022, 2017, 2012, 2007). The regional synthesis of this information is available in the following reports:
- 2002-2022 (MIPAA/RIS+20: 20 years of action towards creating societies for all ages in the UNECE Region)
- 2017-2022 (Ageing Policy in Europe, North America and Central Asia: Synthesis Report on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in the ECE region between 2017 and 2022)
- 2012-2017 (Synthesis Report on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in the ECE region between 2012 and 2017)
- 2007-2012 (Synthesis Report on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in the UNECE region)
- 2002-2007 (Implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in the UNECE region: review of the first five years)
