14th Consortium Board meeting

30 - 31 August 2007
Oslo Norway

The fourteenth meeting of the Consortium Board (CB) of the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) took place in Oslo from 30-31 August 2007. John Hobcraft, Chair of the CB, chaired the meeting.

2008 GGP Conference

The conference Demographic Change: New Insights from the Generations and Gender Programme, which was subsequently renamed as "How Generations and Gender Shape Demographic Change - Towards policies based on better knowledge", will take place in the Palais de Nations in Geneva on 14-16 May. It will serve as the forum for the discussion on population issues among the members of the political and scientific communities and should serve as a platform to promote GGP.

The conference is open to all members of the IWG, nominated government representatives from UNECE member States and all NGOs with consultative status at the ECOSOC.

The Conference will not conclude with a formal political declaration as the conference does not have the mandate to prepare such a declaration in advance through an extensive preparatory process. A review will be provided by discussants' summaries of the preceding deliberations as the concluding document of the Conference.

GGS Data sharing and dissemination

The GGS data sharing preparations are progressing according to plans. NIDI has taken over the commitment for data harmonization. The preparations of the on-line data archive platform are also under way. A document on the implementation of the data archive is being prepared. The on-line archive will offer a service to any potential data applicant and will also include provisions for informing the users on any new developments such as the new releases of the data. All the feedback on the progress of research carried out by the GGS data will be communicated to the public via the GGP publications database.

7th Framework Programme GGP Proposal

The GGP Consortium has been successful in applying for the project financed under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission. The final dispositions of the grant are still being negotiated and the work is planned to start in 2008.
