Regional TIR seminar in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Geneva
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), in close co-operation with the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina, organizes a Regional TIR training seminar in Sarajevo, on 29 and 30 March 2011.
The seminar is aimed at increasing the capacity of the Customs authorities of the countries of the Balkan Region to implement correctly the TIR procedure. It will address issues such as Customs fraud prevention, risk management, controlled access to the TIR regime, termination and discharge of a TIR operation, inquiry procedures, etc.
The TIR Convention of 1975, a treaty administered by the United Nations and open for accession by all of its member States, allows the international transport of goods in customs sealed road vehicles from the customs offices in the country of departure to the customs offices in the country of destination, transiting through as many countries as necessary, without physical frontier control of the goods in transit and without deposit of customs security.
Today 67 countries are Parties to the TIR Convention and 57 regularly use the TIR customs transit procedure. Some 3 million TIR customs transit operations are carried out every year and around 35,000 transport operators are authorized to use the TIR System.
