The conference, originally organised for the member countries of the UNECE Trans-European Motorways (TEM) and Trans-European Railways (TER) projects, will bring together more than 100 participants. Among the speakers are Ms. Doris Bures, Minister of Transport of Austria, Mr. Ján Figel, Minister of Transport of Slovakia, Mr. Johannes Ludewig, Executive Director of the Community of European Railways, Mr. Goran Svilanović, Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, representatives of International Financial Organisations, such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, EBRD, the Black Sea Economic Bank etc. Mr. Jan Kubiš, UNECE Executive Secretary, will open the Conference and Ms. Eva Molnar, Director of UNECE’s Transport Division, will make the conclusions and recommendations.
The conference will focus on the ongoing work in the framework of the TEM and TER projects, as well as the links with Central Asia. Its main aim is to facilitate funding of the road and rail investment projects. In this regard, the revised TEM and TER Master Plan will offer a number of priority projects of regional importance. The conference will also offer a platform for participants to share experience and lessons learnt from financing arrangements, including Public Private Partnerships.
Policy makers from governments, roads and highway administrations, railways operators and infrastructure managers, and other key players, including a number of International Financial Institutions, will discuss among others the specific financing needs and solutions in the UNECE region. Further more the Conference will offer a unique networking opportunity so that infrastructure projects on the drawing boards will become real investments on the ground.
