Information Repository of Good Practices and Lessons Learned in Land-Use Planning and Industrial Safety

Overview and Case Studies
TEIA_0911_UNECE
TEIA_EIB

The Information Repository is an online hub that consolidates the good practices and lessons learned by UNECE countries in the fields of land-use planning and industrial safety. The case studies presented highlight the efforts by countries to reduce disaster risks such as industrial/chemical accidents and mitigate the potential effects on the health and wellbeing of people, livelihoods and the environment, both within and across borders. They cover integrated issues of industrial accident prevention, preparedness and response, decisions on the siting of hazardous industrial/chemical facilitiesStrategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), public participation and information provision to the public, disaster risk reduction (including Natech1), and transboundary cooperation.

Countries (governments, the private sector, academia, NGOs, amongst others) are encouraged to learn from and apply these practices in their national, regional, sub-regional or local context, and to promote and enhance the implementation of the relevant UNECE instruments for addressing disaster risks in an integrated manner.

The development of the Information Repository was co-led and co-funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the UNECE Industrial Accidents Convention, in cooperation with the UNECE Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management, the Convention on Environmental Assessment in a Transboundary Context, the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment, and the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters.

Please refer to the Project Background and Partners webpage and the Press Release for more information.
