Critical Raw Materials Management: UNFC and UNRMS as the Sustainable Transition Pathway

Critical Raw Materials Management: UNFC and UNRMS as the Sustainable Transition Pathway

15 February 2023
Lille France

International Round Table on Materials Criticality Conference (IRTC)

Critical raw materials (CRMs) play a crucial role in the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy, but their extraction can cause environmental and social impacts, exacerbating food and water crises and leading to geopolitical conflicts. A holistic and integrated approach is needed for sustainable resource management. The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) can help companies identify, classify, and manage resources and assess their environmental and social impacts, promoting sustainable resource management and supporting the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy. The workshop will focus on how UNFC and UNRMS can support the transition, particularly about CRMs.
