Background

Vienna Symp FTS1

A symposium on assessing forest damage and disturbance in the UNECE region is to be held in Vienna, 28-30 September 2022. It corresponds to a project initiated by the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Monitoring Sustainable Forest Management.

The project aims to contribute to harmonized forest damage and disturbance assessment in the UNECE region and the identification of innovative monitoring and reporting techniques for international and national application. It is a starting point for further progress towards a future damage and disturbance reporting system for consistent assessment across spatial and temporal scales.

The project was implemented by the Joint UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section with the support of Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany and the United States of America.
