Tbilisi Georgia

A two days working meeting was held in Tbilisi on 18 and 19 November to discuss the draft laws on EIA and SEA developed by the UNECE international consultants, Mr. Jerzy Jendroska and Mr. Dmytro Skrylnikov. The national and international experts discussed details of the proposed environmental assessment systems and identified most suitable EIA and SEA solutions based on the Georgian national circumstances.

The experts also agreed on the way forward, including:

- adapting the proposed draft law to the Georgian legislative technique in December – February 2014

- consulting it with the competent authorities in March and April 2014 and the public in May 2015, and

- developing proposals for amending existing primary legislation by August 2015.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia responsible for this process intends to submit the bill to the Parliament in September 2015.

The activities are carried out with support of the EU funded Programme Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood (EaP-GREEN).
