The housing sector has a critical role to play in ensuring the success of economic and social development in the UNECE region and the reform process in countries in transition. At the same time, the process of transition to a market economy has had a profound impact on housing policy implementation and management.

On request of governments of ECE member States and upon decision of the intergovernmental Committee for Housing and Land Management (CHLM), UNECE prepares Country Profiles on Housing Sector. Country Profiles is a tool for Governments to analyze their housing policies, strategies, institutional and financial frameworks for the housing sector and to compare the progress made internationally.

The networking event will present findings, recommendations and lessons learned from the country profiles prepared for transition countries in recent years, including Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Ukraine. Housing policies in these and other transition countries in the ECE region as well as methodology of preparation of country profiles will be discussed.
