The CIS Inter-Governmental Council for Cooperation in Construction Activities brings together high-level officials from the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States. UN-Habitat Moscow Office and the UNECE cooperate on a number of projects in the CIS region aimed at promoting sustainable housing and urban development in the CIS Region. In 2014, the three organisations launched the preparation of a subregional CIS report on sustainable housing and urban development as their contribution to the HABITAT III. The report is based on national reports prepared by governments of the CIS countries for Habitat III. The subregional report is also an input into the HABITAT III Regional Report for the UNECE Region.

This side event will be a launch event for the Subregional Report to HABITAT III for the CIS Region. The side event will include presentations from senior officials from CIS countries on trends and challenges to sustainable urban development. Experts who drafted the report will inform on the conclusions and recommendations of the report. In addition, information on different projects and activities in the CIS region which are aimed to address housing and urban development challenges will be presented.
