The conference organized by the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) in partnership with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), brought together experts and policymakers from around the world and provided them with a platform to discuss options for methane reduction and abatement activities.

UNECE was represented at the Forum by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Christian Friis Bach, and by the Director of the Sustainable Energy Division Mr. Scott Foster.

Mr. Bach delivered a keynote speech on Wednesday 30 March in the plenary session titled: New Strategic Partnership to Addressing Methane Globally. The objective of this seminar was to present a strategic alliance for methane mitigation and abatement between GMI, UNECE and CCAC, and to announce the renewed commitment to partner for this purpose under the auspices of the Global Methane Initiative for the next 5 years. Speaking in this context Mr. Bach reconfirmed the partnership between GMI and UNECE, highlighted its importance and achievements, and underlined that managing methane emissions from energy-related extractive activities is a win-win for delivering on the global promises on climate change and sustainable development.
