The fifth session of the Group of Experts on Renewable Energy (GERE) will be held during the Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development scheduled for 12-15 November in Kiev. The focus of discussions will be activities included in the current work plan and the following topics:
- Tracking progress in renewable energy development
- Policies, best practices and multi-stakeholder dialogues on how to increase the uptake of renewable energy
- Matchmaking event to support renewable energy instrument opportunities
- Cross-cutting cooperation to integrate renewable energy in future energy systems and contribution to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda
The session will include Renewable Energy Match-making, a Workshop on Overcoming Barriers to financing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and a meeting entitled Promoting Renewable Energy Investments with an Intersectoral and Nexus Perspective. The Renewable Energy Match-making will united decision-makers, renewable energy developers, and Financial institutions to generate concretea opportunities for renewable energy development. The Joint GERE and Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency (GEEE) Workshop on Overcoming Barriers to financing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy will be a venue for discussion of policy-based solutions aimed at increasing the uptake of renewable energy. The meeting entitled Promoting Renewable Energy Investments with an Intersectoral and Nexus Perspective will discuss the use of a nexus approach to sustainable energy development due to the inherent linkages between energy, water, food, and ecosystem management. An integrated, holistic nexus approach develops and promotes value-added nexus synergies. Recent UNECE reports including the Global Tracking Framework and the Renewable Energy Status Report 2017 will be highlighted throughout the event.
