Overcoming Barriers to Investing in Energy Efficiency, Intensive Learning Session at the EE Global 2018

21 May 2018
Copenhagen Denmark

One of the concrete activities of the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency (GEEE) is regulatory and policy dialogue addressing barriers to improve energy efficiency. The results of the survey on overcoming barriers to investing in energy efficiency show that self-financing and direct financing from public budgets remain the main sources in most countries of the ECE region. However new opportunities for financing continue to be developed. The Group of Experts continues to explore which financing strategies work best, how governments can improve their bankability and scope to expand private financing of energy efficiency, which policies and legislation have been proven to deliver results. Another GEEE activity is Exchange of experience to improve significantly energy efficiency in industry sector. The Group of Experts aims to enhance further the involvement of the industry in achieving more sustainable and energy efficient production, logistics and consumption.

The joint UNECE/Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency publication Overcoming Barriers to Investing in Energy Efficiency looks into barriers to investing in energy efficiency and ways to overcome them. This session organized jointly by UNECE, Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency, and Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production/EEP will look in more detail into investment decisions in the industry sector, in particular what helps viable projects to be identified and implemented and what stimulates companies to make decisions to finance and implement energy efficiency measures and projects. The panelists and participants of this session are invited to share their experience in improving the investment climate for energy efficiency and in providing policy solutions and incentive schemes to make energy efficiency projects viable.

The session is organized in the framework of the 2018 Energy Efficiency Global Forum (EE Global 2018) held in Copenhagen on 21-22 May 2018 (http://eeglobalforum.org/). See Agenda, Intensive Learning Sessions.
