UNECE at the Smart City Expo World Congress

The Smart City Expo World Congress continues its vision towards making cities sustainable through smart initiatives. This year, the Smart City Expo World Congress (19-21 November, Fira Barcelona Gran Via) will focus on five approaches - digital transformation, urban environment, mobility, governance & finance, and inclusive & sharing cities and it expects to outnumber participation figures of the 2018 edition.

At the event, UNECE will open the U4SSC stand (Hall P2 Level 0 Street D, Stand 485) on 19 Novermber at 11:30 a.m. where it will feature its work on smart and sustainable cities. In the context of the presentations of Norway, UNECE will showcase its collaboration with the Geneva UN Charter of Excellence Trondheim and its project to assess smartness and sustainability of 17 Norwegian cities.

On 21 November, Thursday (16:00-16:45), UNECE will participate in the plenary session “Agenda 2030: how are cities leading the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals?”. The session will discuss the inclusion of local governments in efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda, will consider some of the initiatives of this kind taking place in Barcelona, as well as discussing key challenges and opportunities for cities to partner with other stakeholders (international organizations, academia, private sector) to implement the 2030 Agenda.
