UN/CEFACT Mini-Conference on electronic maritime safety regulatory information exchange standards

UN/CEFACT Mini-Conference on electronic maritime safety regulatory information exchange standards

26 April 2016
Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland

Background
Over the past years the safety of ships monitored at sea and within ports has been supported by regulatory conventions governed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

For many years, UN/CEFACT trade facilitation recommendations and standards have been deployed to support the industry to provide the required information through UN Layout aligned paper forms and UN/EDIFACT electronic message structures especially for the two key conventions SOLAS and the FAL.

In recent years, new regulatory requirements have been introduced by IMO and there has been additional focus on encouraging the use of modern data exchange methods and the adoption of the single window concept in the form of a prototype maritime single window.

About this workshop
The purpose of the workshop is to

  • Provide information on the new regulations which require electronic information exchanges
  • Introduce the new UN/EDIFACT VERMAS message for exchanging verified gross mass measurements and certification
  • Discuss opportunities for electronic certificates
  • Inform about the current state of IMO FAL Compendium maintenance and future development plans
  • Provide updates on existing relevant UN/CEFACT standards and recommendations and those currently under development

The workshop is designed as a peer-to-peer workshop with presentations and panel sessions to enable the senders and recipients of maritime safety related regulatory information exchanges to share views and experiences with the objective to build increased collaborations for supporting existing and future requirements in this important area.

Target audience
Participants from related regulatory agencies and transport and logistics experts especially from sectors subject to the regulations.
