Validation of unified methodology for assessing potential of wind and solar energy in the CIS countries

On 26-27 June 2019, the Workshop on “Validation of unified methodology for assessing potential of wind and solar energy in the CIS countries”  took place in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. This workshop served an instrumental purpose to the implementation of the UNECE project "Enhancing transboundary energy cooperation through introduction of wind and solar energy into power systems of the CIS countries to meet SDG7". Organized in close collaboration with the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and CIS Electric Power Council, the event aimed to discuss and review the methodology recently developed under the project and provided concrete recommendations for its finalization.

This project brought together multiple stakeholders from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyszstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation. The fist day of the workshop was dedicated to identifying key issues and long-term planning for solar and wind energy in CIS, and the second day focused on a joint UNDP-UNECE Capacity Building workshop.
