Approximately two-thirds of industrial energy consumption currently relies on fossil fuels. Building on insights from previous Bi-monthly fora – on heating and cooling and on systemic efficiency – this session will explore pathways for decarbonizing non-electric energy demand in industry by addressing the following questions:
- What are the challenges, risks, and opportunities associated with electrification, hydrogen, and other alternatives for decarbonizing non-electric energy demand in industrial systems?
- How can systemic efficiency principles guide manufacturers in identifying pathways tailored to their specific needs, including process requirements, economic implications, and energy availability?
- What policy frameworks, technological solutions, and decision-making tools are essential to support resilient, cost-effective transitions in industrial energy systems?
