At the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (Baku, 11-22 November 2024) for the first time a Declaration on Water for Climate Action was developed by Azerbaijan as COP 29 presidency country, in collaboration with UNECE, UNEP and WMO, endorsed by over 60 countries and organizations. This Declaration launched the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action and the fifteenth meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate is a contribution to this Baku Dialogue.
The meeting aims to discuss how to mainstream water into global climate processes, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) as well as to plan and provide guidance to the implementation of the activities on water and climate under the programme of work for 2025-2027 of the Water Convention (forthcoming). The meeting is open to experts representing governmental authorities, the private sector, non-governmental and international organizations as well as other interested stakeholders.
The Task Force on Water and Climate is responsible for activities related to adaptation to climate change in transboundary basins, including flood and drought management, in accordance with the programme of work for 2025-2027 of the Water Convention (forthcoming).
Working languages of the meeting will be Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
The meeting will be preceded by the Global Workshop on Increasing climate resilience with focus on floods and health on the transboundary and national levels on 19-20 March 2025.
