Strategic Roundtable on Increasing Resilience to Climate Change in the Water and Sanitation Sector under the UNECE-WHO/Europe Protocol on Water and Health

Strategic Roundtable on Increasing Resilience to Climate Change in the Water and Sanitation Sector under the UNECE-WHO/Europe Protocol on Water and Health

13 November (10:00) - 14 November (13:00) 2023
Geneva, Switzerland

The Strategic Roundtable on Increasing Resilience to Climate Change in the Water and Sanitation Sector under the Protocol on Water and Health aims to identify strategic directions and priorities for countries of the pan-European region in the area of climate, water and sanitation that can be pursued under the Protocol and ensure that these translate into clear action policies, including tools that may be needed to support country-level action. Please see the concept note below for more detailed information on the objectives and target audience of the Roundtable.

The Strategic Roundtable is organized under the leadership of Italy and the Netherlands and serviced by UNECE and WHO/Europe as the joint secretariat of the Protocol on Water and Health.

As the Protocol is an inter-sectoral instrument, future work on increasing resilience to climate change under the Protocol intends to bring together climate experts and the existing Protocol’s focal points responsible for environment, water, and health. This approach aims to address climate-induced challenges more effectively in a coherent manner. The joint secretariat will therefore shortly send out invitations to relevant ministers to nominate climate experts from the pan-European countries to participate in the Strategic Roundtable in addition to the Protocol focal points.

The Roundtable will be held back-to-back with the 13th meeting of the Task Force on Target Setting and Reporting under the Protocol, scheduled in the afternoon of 14 November 2023.
